GSCU recently began holding First-Time Homebuyer Seminars at local breweries in Manchester, NH. Sema Costa, a Branch Specialist for GSCU, attended the first seminar with her husband is sharing her experience for our members!

Upon arriving, attendees received a complimentary beverage ticket, informational folders with tips, reminders, and what to prepare for a pre-approval and the application process, then we got to dig into some snacks!

Samantha Mulvaney, the credit union’s Vice President of Lending, kicked off the seminar with a welcome to all of us and introduction of other staff at the event. She explained that the rest of the seminar would be held with us being split into small groups so each attendee would have one-on-one time with staff to connect and ask questions. We learned about credit, the application process, and what to expect after we put an offer in on a house.

My husband and I learned that several staff have been in the mortgage and underwriting industry for more than 20 years and we felt very comfortable, and fortunate, for the wealth of knowledge they had to share with us.

During a break from the information, the staff raffled off a corn hole set and other yard games that we were able to play before the seminar began. I was lucky enough to win a Connect Four set for my future home!

Overall, I learned what goes into a credit score, all of the things that go into a mortgage payment (including private mortgage insurance, property taxes, and more), and that GSCU gives people 120 days to find their home after getting pre-approved.

GSCU’s Mortgage Department really impressed me with their enthusiasm, knowledge, and dedication at the event. They’re passionate about your wants and needs as you achieve your goal of homeownership. When choosing GSCU, people can expect to work with seasoned experts who really care and are passionate to bring you the best service you may ever have. They showed this by encouraging feedback in-person, or with their easy-to-use online survey after the event. They want the process to be streamlined, flexible, and convenient. A credit union’s purpose is to support and help members with their financial lives so they can meet their goals and feel confident about the home buying process. I was impressed to say the least but not surprised – at GSCU we would rather set our members up for success and this seminar really helped get us started!
